Bayern Munich Vs Arsenal

Arsenal earn creditable draw in Munich

Trossard's late strike secures valuable away goal for Gunners

Mikel Arteta's side now in good position ahead of second leg at Emirates Stadium

Arsenal produced a superb performance to earn a creditable 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday night.

The Gunners fell behind to a goal from Robert Lewandowski in the 53rd minute, but levelled through Bukayo Saka just six minutes later.

Bayern restored their lead through Jamal Musiala in the 60th minute, but Arsenal refused to be beaten and Leandro Trossard equalised with a stunning strike in the 90th minute.

The result leaves Arsenal in a strong position ahead of the second leg at the Emirates Stadium on April 12.

Arsenal have now lost only one of their six away games against Bayern Munich in the Champions League (D1 L4), with that solitary victory coming in March 2013.

The Gunners also extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 11 games (W8 D3), with their last defeat coming against Manchester City in the FA Cup on January 27.

Arteta will be delighted with his team's performance, especially given the fact that they were without several key players, including Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus and Mohamed Elneny.

The Spaniard will now be hoping that his team can build on this result and secure a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2009.
