Angela Rayner, the Labour MP for Ashton-under-Lyne, has welcomed her first grandchild at the age of 37, becoming the youngest grandmother in the House of Commons.
Rayner, who is serving her second term in Parliament, shared the news with her followers on social media, writing: "Couldn't be prouder of my daughter for giving birth to a beautiful baby boy. Overwhelmed with joy and love to be a grandmother." The new arrival has yet to be named.
Rayner's personal milestone comes amidst her busy political career. She currently serves as Shadow Secretary of State for Education and is a vocal advocate for social justice and equality.
The birth of her grandchild has been met with well wishes from across the political spectrum, including from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who tweeted: "Congratulations to Angela Rayner on becoming a grandmother.
